What Often Lives Beneath the Excellence
High-functioning anxiety is not a formal diagnosis. It is a term used to describe individuals who experience significant anxiety but continue to function at a high level in their daily lives.
Over time, that level of vigilance becomes your baseline. And what was once a response becomes a way of being.

That is high-functioning anxiety.
And for Black women who lead, it is one of the most underrecognized and undertreated experiences in mental health.

Preparedness,
Perfectionism,
Always anticipating what’s next,
Responsibility,
Over-delivering,
Over time anxiety becomes the engine running beneath everything, so consistent it begins to feel like simply who you are.
It is not who you are.
It is what your nervous system learned to do.
And it can be unlearned.

For Black women navigating leadership, high-functioning anxiety often is indistinguishable from excellence.
Which is precisely why it goes unaddressed for so long.
Many Black women were socialized early to anticipate, to prepare, to stay ten steps ahead. In many environments, hypervigilance was not just a nervous system pattern. It was a strategy that produced results.
Over time, living in a state of sustained readiness accumulates in the body and the mind in ways that your body registers as chronic stress. Too often, chronic stress becomes normalized and unrecognized.
This is why high-functioning anxiety in Black women often goes unaddressed for years. Our high capacity to adapt and function at the highest levels under immense pressure can be both a blessing and a curse. Beneath all the functioning and excelling, our nervous systems remain on alert, waiting for a permission to rest that never quite comes.
Until now.

I am a Johns Hopkins-trained, double board-certified psychiatrist with over twenty years of experience, who practices as a therapist, psychiatrist, and lifestyle consultant.
What emerges on the other side of our partnership and my holistic treatment for high-functioning anxiety is not a diminished version of your ambition. It is a woman with greater bandwidth, more margin in her days, and a nervous system that finally knows how to rest.
More peace.
More ease.
More joy.

More peace.
More ease.
More joy.

"Dr. Hypolite helped me name something I had never understood. I did not identify with what most people called stress or anxiety because I have worked so well under pressure for most of my life. She helped me understand high-functioning anxiety and how it was getting in the way of my ability to enjoy the life I worked so hard to build. My family and I are both grateful."
"I was productive, doing well in my career, and my family was healthy and happy. And yet it felt like I was taking care of everyone but myself. I was tired and on edge all the time, regardless of how much I slept. Dr. Hypolite helped me see what was underneath what I was experiencing. I feel so much better and more energized now. I can actually enjoy my life."
"Working with Dr. Hypolite helped me understand why I always felt on and why I could not turn my brain off when I wanted to. She prescribed supplements because I was hesitant to try another antidepressant after having side effects in the past. I was surprised that the supplements worked so well and without side effects. I feel so much calmer and less tense. I can actually rest and enjoy downtime now, and I am somehow even more productive."

High-functioning anxiety is treatable.
The overthinking recedes. The over-functioning ceases. The tension fades.
And the peace and ease you have always longed for are finally within reach.
Are you ready for more?
